Abstract: The article regards the place of comparative constructions with an animalistic element in the linguistic picture of the world by M. Mitchell. The animalistic element is regarded as a symbol which exists in the writer’s consciousness. The peculiarities of the interpretation of animal names within a comparative construction are researched.
