Abstract: The article shows main mechanisms of the listening competence development by students of technical colleges and universities based on profession-oriented audio texts while doing the problem-oriented tasks. The acquired skills of working with the profession-oriented vocabulary make the oral speech comprehension more intensive and contribute to profession-oriented audio comprehension. The problem-oriented teaching favors the formation of listening competence and development of communicative competence.
